Kalki at 100 Rupees: Transforming the Tollywood Industry

Date:

It’s been over a month since Kalki 2898 hit the screens, and the film is still performing remarkably well at the box office—an uncommon feat these days. The strategic decision to price tickets at ₹100 is significantly boosting the film’s success. Last Friday alone, the film sold over 22,000 tickets on BookMyShow and continued trending on the platform.

Bollywood has long employed the tactic of reducing ticket prices after three to four weeks of release, whereas Tollywood has yet to widely adopt this practice. With Kalki 2898, there’s hope for a shift in Tollywood, where big-budget films might start lowering ticket prices after a few weeks to draw in larger audiences and encourage repeat viewership in theaters.

Bollywood also often releases films on OTT platforms after eight weeks of their theatrical release, alongside the ticket price reduction strategy. It’s time for Tollywood to embrace these practices, as evidenced by the success of Kalki 2898. These measures could significantly enhance the performance and longevity of Tollywood films at the box office.
