Alia Bhatt’s Jigra: Box Office Struggles Amid Mixed Reviews, Netflix OTT Release in 8 Weeks

Date:

Alia Bhatt’s latest venture, Jigra, an emotional action drama directed by Vasan Bala, released recently to mixed reviews. Despite Bhatt’s powerful performance, the film, which revolves around a sister’s relentless pursuit to save her brother in a prison break scenario, faced criticism for its slow-paced screenplay and extended runtime.

The film, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Eternal Sunshine Productions, didn’t generate much enthusiasm at the box office, with an estimated opening of around Rs. 5 crores nett in India. However, with the Dussehra holiday, there’s hope for a modest rise in collections.

Netflix has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights, as announced during the film’s opening credits, with the OTT release scheduled eight weeks after its theatrical debut. The film features Vedang Raina as Alia Bhatt’s brother, alongside Aditya Nanda, Manoj Pahwa, and Rahul Ravindran in key roles. In addition to its Hindi release, Jigra was also dubbed in Telugu, distributed by Asian Suresh Entertainment.
