Vettaiyan, starring Rajinikanth, was released with high expectations but unfortunately turned out to be a box office failure. The film managed to achieve breakeven in just two territories—Kerala and Karnataka. In Kerala, Vettaiyan grossed over ₹16 crores, while in Karnataka, the film collected close to ₹20 crores.
However, in other regions, the film faced significant losses. In Tamil Nadu, it is expected to close under ₹100 crores, and overseas collections are projected to be around $10 million, which are considered subpar figures for a Rajinikanth film. In the Telugu states, the movie grossed only ₹19 crores against a breakeven mark of ₹30 crores.
Overall, Vettaiyan grossed ₹235 crores worldwide, far short of its breakeven target of ₹325 crores, solidifying its status as a flop. Due to these disappointing results, Rajinikanth and Lyca Productions are reportedly considering collaborating again to compensate for the recent losses in their partnership.
