Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 made a huge impact at the Indian box office, becoming one of the most talked-about films of the year. The movie, known for its strong storyline, cultural depth, and powerful performances, received an overwhelming response in India. However, despite its massive domestic success, the film reportedly failed to perform well in the overseas market.
According to trade reports, Kantara Chapter 1 could not reach its breakeven mark abroad. The overseas gross is estimated to be around 12.5 million dollars, while the breakeven target was between 16 to 17 million dollars. This indicates that the film turned into a loss venture in overseas territories, even though it achieved blockbuster status in India.
One major reason for this shortfall is believed to be the underperformance of the Hindi version in foreign markets. While films like KGF Chapter 2 managed to create a strong hold overseas, Kantara Chapter 1 could not replicate the same success. The Hindi version contributed only a small portion to the total overseas revenue.
Despite this setback, the film remains a remarkable success in the domestic market and continues to strengthen Rishab Shetty’s position as one of the most talented filmmakers in the Kannada film industry. Kantara Chapter 1 has once again proved that content-driven cinema can connect deeply with the audience, even if its global reach sometimes falls short of expectations.
