Ajith’s Vidaamuyarchi Becomes a Massive Disaster, Incurs ₹100 Crore Loss

Date:

Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi recently hit theaters but turned out to be a massive failure, receiving negative reviews and struggling at the box office. Made on a staggering budget of ₹250 crores, the film faced additional financial burdens, including ₹20 crores for remake rights, leading to a release on deficits. By the end of its theatrical run, Vidaamuyarchi resulted in a ₹100 crore loss for its production house, Lyca Productions.

Despite featuring a star-studded cast, including Arjun, Trisha, and Regina Cassandra, the film failed to recover its investment. A significant portion of the budget went into remunerations, with Ajith reportedly receiving ₹100 crores, while another ₹50 crores was allocated to the remaining cast and crew.

For high-budget films like Vidaamuyarchi, theatrical collections are crucial, but the movie failed to make an impact, grossing only around ₹145 crores, with a worldwide share between ₹60-65 crores. While its non-theatrical business fetched approximately ₹110 crores, the total revenue of ₹170 crores fell significantly short of its ₹270 crore budget, leading to substantial losses for Lyca Productions.

The production house has been facing back-to-back setbacks, starting with Indian 2, Chandramukhi 2, and Lal Salaam. Their next big venture, L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, is set for release on March 27. Given Lyca’s recent struggles, the film’s success is crucial for the company’s financial stability.
