Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar’s much-anticipated action thriller Vidaamuyarchi, directed by Magizh Thirumeni, finally hit the big screens this month after multiple delays, including a postponed Pongal release. The film, heavily inspired by the Hollywood movie Break Down, failed to meet expectations at the box office, grossing less than ₹150 crore worldwide.
The film’s Telugu-dubbed version, Pattudala, also struggled, failing to attract audiences in the Telugu states. Despite high expectations, the movie failed to make a mark commercially.
Now, reports from Money Control suggest that Vidaamuyarchi is set to premiere on Netflix on February 28, 2025. Tamil big-budget films typically maintain a four-week theatrical window before their OTT debut, but it appears the makers are opting for an earlier digital release, bringing the film to streaming within just three weeks of its theatrical launch.
Netflix, the film’s official streaming partner, has yet to confirm the release date. Produced by Lyca Productions, Vidaamuyarchi stars Trisha as the female lead alongside an ensemble cast featuring Arjun Sarja, Regina Cassandra, Aarav, Nikhil Nair, Dasarathi, Ganesh, Vishnu Edavan, and Arivu. The film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
With its lackluster theatrical run, Vidaamuyarchi now looks to find a wider audience through its OTT release. Fans of Ajith and action thrillers will be keen to see if the film garners better reception in the digital space.
