Balakrishna’s much-awaited film Akhanda 2, directed by Boyapati Sreenu, has drawn significant interest even ahead of its theatrical release, which was initially slated for September 25. Recent developments show that the film has secured a record-setting over-the-top (OTT) streaming deal.
Netflix has acquired the rights for Akhanda 2 in all languages, reportedly for approximately ₹85 crore, making this one of the highest amounts ever paid for a senior hero’s OTT rights. The scale of the deal places Akhanda 2 alongside big-tier films in terms of financial clout.
In terms of release strategy, the South Indian versions of the film are expected to run in theaters for about four weeks before becoming available on OTT. The Hindi version, however, will have a longer theatrical run, around eight weeks, indicating a major push in the Hindi-speaking markets.
The makers are planning for a broad multilingual rollout, and the OTT launch date is anticipated to fall in the first week of December, possibly on December 4 or 5. This schedule underscores their confidence in both theatrical and digital landscapes.
