Ticket prices for films in Andhra Pradesh have long been significantly lower than those in Telangana, with a difference of nearly ₹100 per ticket. This disparity has forced many big-budget filmmakers to request special permissions for a ticket price hike ahead of their releases. Interestingly, even small-budget films in Telangana enjoy higher ticket rates without the need for prior approvals.
For years, producers have been urging the Andhra Pradesh government to issue a formal Government Order (G.O.) to address this pricing issue. Responding to these persistent appeals, the government has finally taken action by forming a dedicated committee to look into the matter of ticket price regulations.
Producers are now optimistic that ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh may soon align more closely with those in Telangana. They believe this move could offer much-needed financial relief, especially for high-budget films that rely heavily on box office collections.
However, there’s a flip side to this development. Steep ticket hikes could discourage regular moviegoers, potentially affecting footfalls in theatres. While the change may benefit big-budget films, it could pose challenges for medium and small-budget productions, which often depend on affordable pricing to draw audiences.
Only time will tell how the committee’s recommendations will impact the industry’s economics and audience turnout.
