Can I Have a Vaginal Birth If I Had a Previous C-Section?

Date:

Many mothers who have previously went through C section hope to avoid it. The truth is a vaginal birth after cesarean is sometimes considered risky by doctors.

A vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC) is when someone gives birth vaginally after a previous cesarean delivery.

Your chances of successfully delivering vaginally after one previous cesareans is affected by:

• Baby’s head is down.

•Babies weighing less than 7 pounds, 11 ounces have the best chance

Previous uterine rupture: If you have uterine rupture (a tear in the womb muscle) in the past, then normal vaginal delivery is impossible.

Vaginal Delivery is not possible when:

•You have placental problems.

•Your baby is in an abnormal position.

•You are carrying twin, triplets, or multiples.

•You are pregnant beyond 40 weeks of gestation.

•Your baby has low birth weight or excess birth weight.
