Some say onions are full of benefits for both internal and external health. Whether eaten raw or cooked, they may help with various ailments such as coughs, colds, chest pain, earache, nausea, and stomach discomfort.

Home Remedies Using Onion

  • If you are suffering from a cough, cut an onion in half and sprinkle a spoonful of brown sugar on one of the halves. Seal both halves in a jar, wait an hour, then take this twice a day. It may ease the cough.
  • To reduce fever, place two onion halves under each foot while going to bed. Wearing socks afterward may help this remedy work overnight.
  • For nausea, extract onion juice. Mix two spoonfuls of this juice into cool mint tea and drink. Repeating the dose after five minutes can help reduce queasiness.
  • For wounds, slice an onion, remove the outer skin, and place the cut surface on the injured area. This may slow down bleeding and also help keep the wound clean.
  • To relieve conditions such as chest congestion, common cold, and phlegm, make a paste of onion with a little coconut oil. Apply this to the chest area and cover with a towel. Overnight use might bring relief.
  • For toothache or infections, apply onion paste to the affected area. Wrapping it with a cloth or gauze can enhance its soothing effect.
  • For stomach aches in children, boil some onions in water, let it cool, and give a small spoonful of this onion-water. It may soothe the pain.
