Deepika Padukone, playing the role of pregnant test subject SU-M80 (Sumathi) in Nag Ashwin’s futuristic film “Kalki 2898 AD,” filmed a challenging climax scene while pregnant in real life. Saswata Chatterjee, her co-star who portrays Commander Manas, revealed in an interview with News18 that Deepika was expecting during the shoot. He mentioned that during a physically demanding scene where his character drags hers by the hair, Deepika’s husband, Ranveer Singh, was also present on set for support.
Reflecting on the filming experience, Saswata shared, “Deepika is always cheerful. We shot the scene in Mumbai towards the end of production because she was pregnant by then. Despite the physical intensity of the scene, I reassured Ranveer that for more challenging sequences, there could be a body double. Ranveer was gracious and understanding, responding with a smile, ‘I understand, Dada.'”
Following “Kalki 2898 AD,” which also stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, Deepika is set to appear in Rohit Shetty’s “Singham Again.” Deepika and Ranveer, who married in 2018, announced their pregnancy in February, with their first child expected in September 2024.
