In January 2025, Netflix unveiled its Tamil film lineup for the year, featuring highly anticipated titles such as Retro, Vidaamuyarchi, and Thug Life. Among these, two projects starring actor-filmmaker Pradeep Ranganathan stood out—Dragon, co-written with director Ashwath Marimuthu, and an untitled film helmed by debutant Keerthiswaran, starring Mamitha Baiju.
Dragon’s Blockbuster Success
Following its theatrical release, Dragon became a massive box office success, surpassing the Rs 100-crore mark within just 10 days. Featuring a stellar cast including Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon, KS Ravikumar, and George Maryan, the film resonated with audiences, cementing its place as one of the biggest hits of the year.
Dragon’s Netflix Premiere Date
Despite its continued strong performance in theaters, speculation is rife about Dragon arriving on Netflix soon. Reports indicate that the film is set to stream in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi from March 28, 2025. While an official confirmation from Netflix is still awaited, the platform generally releases films around 30 days post-theatrical debut.
Dragon – A Tale of Redemption and Second Chances
Directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, Dragon follows the journey of a college dropout who, after forging a degree and chasing shortcuts to success, faces an unexpected setback. Forced to return to college and clear his arrears within a strict timeline, he must seek assistance from his ex-girlfriend—now a faculty member—who once dismissed him as a failure. With its engaging narrative and relatable themes, the film has struck a chord with viewers, further boosting its appeal.
Pradeep Ranganathan’s Next Project
After the success of Dragon, Pradeep Ranganathan is gearing up for his next film, Love Insurance Kompany, a sci-fi romantic drama directed by Vignesh Shivan. Co-written by Pradeep, Vignesh Shivan, and SJ Suryah, the film features Krithi Shetty in the lead and revolves around time travel. Initially conceptualized with Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, the project faced budgetary constraints before being revived with Pradeep stepping into the role.
With Dragon soaring at the box office and its Netflix debut imminent, Pradeep Ranganathan continues to solidify his reputation as one of Tamil cinema’s most promising and dynamic talents.
