Kaantha Faces Legal Trouble Before Release

Date:

The highly anticipated period drama Kaantha, starring Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati, has hit a legal roadblock just days before its release. The film, which was set to premiere on November 14, 2025, has become the center of controversy after a petition was filed in the Chennai civil court.

The petitioner, B. Thiagarajan, who is the grandson of veteran Tamil actor and singer M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, has accused the makers of misrepresenting his grandfather’s life. He claims that the movie portrays Bhagavathar in a negative light, showing him as a man of questionable morals and depicting his final days in poverty. The family insists that such depictions are completely untrue and disrespectful to the late legend’s legacy.

The complaint seeks to halt the film’s theatrical release, distribution, and digital streaming until the issue is resolved. In response, the producers of Kaantha have stated that the film is a work of fiction and not a biopic. They maintain that while the movie may take creative inspiration from historical settings, it does not directly represent any real person or event.

The court has issued notices to the filmmakers and scheduled the next hearing for November 18. This development has sparked intense discussion in the film industry and among fans, as the outcome could impact the movie’s release plans. Despite the controversy, Kaantha remains one of the most awaited films of the year, with Dulquer and Rana’s collaboration drawing massive attention across multiple languages.
