Japan has become a significant international market for Tollywood, with the country warmly embracing films like Rajamouli’s Baahubali and RRR. Both films performed exceptionally well, with RRR setting a benchmark by grossing over ₹100 crore in Japan. Tollywood star Prabhas has also gained a strong fan base in the country, thanks to the success of Baahubali. His films Saaho and Salaar enjoyed notable openings in Japan, and now, Kalki 2898 AD is gearing up to make its mark there.
The blockbuster film, which grossed over ₹1000 crore worldwide, is set to release in Japan on January 3, 2025. To boost its prospects, Prabhas and the team will travel to Japan for extensive promotional activities, aiming to replicate its global success in the Japanese market. The makers are optimistic about its performance, expecting significant numbers from the release.
Given the film’s multi-part format, the makers plan to expand its reach to other international markets, leveraging its growing popularity. Meanwhile, Prabhas has an exciting slate of seven films lined up over the next five years, with several expected to release in Japan as well. The actor is keen to solidify his presence in the country and build on the momentum generated by his previous successes.
