Kangana Ranaut Faces Legal Trouble Over Emergency Copyright Dispute

Date:

Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency is embroiled in a legal dispute after the Patna High Court issued notices to her and the film’s producers. The controversy stems from a petition filed by Kalpana Singh, the daughter-in-law of celebrated poet Ramdhari Singh ‘Dinkar.’ She alleges that the film used a famous line from Dinkar’s poem Singhasan Khali Karo Ki Janata Aati Hai in its promotional material and song without proper authorization.

The court has yet to ban the film’s release but has sent notices to the involved parties. Despite the legal battle, Emergency was released in theaters on January 17, 2025, before receiving any formal response from the filmmakers. Kalpana Singh accuses the producers and Kangana of copyright infringement, sparking significant attention due to Dinkar’s revered status in Indian literature.

The ongoing case will be heard again on March 7, 2025, adding more intrigue to this legal saga. Meanwhile, the film’s box office performance has been underwhelming, with low footfalls and disruptions in screenings across Punjab and other states.
