Mamitha Baiju: “I’m a Malayali Girl, Not Tamil” – Opens Up About Her Love for Malayalam Cinema and Strong Roles in Tamil

Date:

Actress Mamitha Baiju, who is gearing up for the release of her upcoming Tamil film Dude, recently spoke about her journey in South Indian cinema. In a candid conversation, she clarified that she is a true Malayali girl at heart and that her growing popularity in Tamil films doesn’t mean she’s shifting industries.

Passion for Malayalam Cinema

Mamitha said that Malayalam cinema will always be her home. “I’m not a Tamil girl; I’m a Malayali girl,” she said with pride. The actress explained that while she has acted in several Tamil films recently, it’s mainly because the roles she was offered there were more powerful and diverse. She added that she still has immense love and respect for Malayalam cinema and is always open to strong and meaningful characters in her mother tongue.

Working in Tamil Films

The Premalu actress shared that working in Tamil cinema has been an exciting experience. She revealed that the film sets in Tamil Nadu have a different energy and vibe, and she enjoys learning from new teams and technicians. Mamitha also mentioned that there’s no bias or difficulty in working across languages and that she feels equally welcomed in both industries.

She humorously added that the only big difference she noticed was in the food served on set. “Tamil film sets usually have dosa and idli, and I’ve started loving them,” she said with a smile.

Overcoming Language Barriers

Mamitha admitted that Tamil was initially a challenge for her, but she gradually became comfortable with it. She shared that she can now read, write, and speak Tamil well enough to perform naturally in her roles. Her commitment to learning the language has helped her connect more closely with Tamil audiences.

Collaboration with Pradeep Ranganathan

Mamitha’s upcoming Tamil film Dude features her alongside actor-director Pradeep Ranganathan. Talking about her co-star, she said he’s fun to work with and that the film’s shooting process was filled with learning and laughter. She hopes the movie connects with audiences across languages, just like Love Today did.

Future Plans

Even with her growing fame in Tamil cinema, Mamitha Baiju remains firm about balancing both industries. She said that while she’s thrilled to explore new languages and audiences, Malayalam cinema will always have her heart.

With Dude releasing this Diwali, Mamitha Baiju is all set to charm fans once again with her natural performance and captivating screen presence.
