Who would have thought a small-budget comedy drama could outshine a big-hero film? Yet, that’s exactly what Tourist Family has done, becoming the latest sensation in Kollywood. In a surprising turn of events, the film has outperformed Retro at the Tamil Nadu box office by its third weekend.
As per trade sources, Tourist Family has grossed an impressive ₹53 crores in Tamil Nadu alone. In contrast, Retro, despite its star-studded appeal, has earned ₹50.5 crores in its home market and is now nearing the end of its theatrical run.
What makes Tourist Family‘s success even more noteworthy is that it managed to collect over ₹5 crores during its latest weekend — all while facing stiff competition from new releases like Maaman and Devils Double Next Level.
Globally, the film has amassed nearly ₹70 crores, a stellar achievement for a movie with no major stars. Written and directed by debutant Abishan Jeevinth, Tourist Family features an ensemble cast including Simran, Mithun Jai Shankar, Kamalesh, Yogi Babu, Ramesh Thilak, and M.S. Bhaskar. The film was produced by Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment, with music composed by Sean Roldan.
