Mohanlal’s Thudarum Creates Box Office History, OTT Release Reportedly Delayed

Date:

Malayalam cinema icon Mohanlal is on a dream run, delivering back-to-back blockbusters with L2: Empuraan and the surprise smash hit Thudarum. While Empuraan lived up to its massive pre-release buzz, it was Thudarum that truly stunned the industry with its record-shattering performance.

Thudarum has made history by becoming the first Malayalam film to cross the ₹100 crore mark in Kerala alone, setting a new benchmark for Mollywood. Despite facing competition from newer releases, the film continues to dominate the box office with an exceptional hold, solidifying Mohanlal’s position as a box office powerhouse.

Given its phenomenal theatrical run, reports suggest that the OTT release of Thudarum has been delayed, breaking the usual four-week window for digital premieres. While no official confirmation has been made, sources claim that JioCinema (Hotstar) has bagged the post-theatrical streaming rights to this juggernaut.

So far, Thudarum has grossed an impressive ₹220 crores worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, only behind Empuraan and Manjummel Boys. At its current pace, it is well on track to surpass Manjummel Boys and climb even higher in the all-time charts.

Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum also stars Shobana, Prakash Varma, Binu Pappu, Thomas Mathew, and Amritha Varshini in prominent roles.
