Pradeep Ranganathan, the star and director of Love Today, has once again struck gold with his latest Tamil release, Dragon. The film has been performing exceptionally well in Tamil Nadu and is also seeing decent traction in select A-class centers in the Telugu states. However, the biggest surprise comes from its U.S. box office numbers, where it has surpassed expectations.
By the end of Saturday, the combined Telugu and Tamil versions of Dragon had grossed an impressive $443,069. The Telugu version alone contributed $140,087—an astonishing 31.6% of the total earnings. This is a remarkable achievement for a Tamil film expanding its reach in the Telugu market.
To put things into perspective, Vishwak Sen’s recent Telugu release Laila, which received overwhelmingly negative reviews, ended its entire theatrical run with just $48,656. In contrast, Dragon’s Telugu version has already tripled that amount within its opening weekend alone. This clearly highlights the film’s strong audience connect and the power of positive word-of-mouth when the content resonates.
Unlike typical commercial entertainers, Dragon thrives on its emotional depth, which has played a crucial role in its widespread appeal. As emphasized in reviews, the film isn’t just about fun and laughter—it’s an emotionally engaging experience that makes it a must-watch in theaters. With solid momentum on its side, Dragon is poised to continue its successful run in the coming days.
