Prime Video’s New Ad Policy in India Faces Backlash from Subscribers

Date:

Amazon Prime Video, one of India’s top OTT platforms, has announced a new policy that has sparked backlash among its subscribers. Beginning June 17, 2025, the platform will start showing limited advertisements during content—even for users who pay the standard annual subscription fee of ₹1,499. To continue enjoying an uninterrupted, ad-free experience, users will now need to pay an additional ₹699 per year or ₹129 per month.

The announcement has triggered widespread disappointment across social media, with many Indian subscribers voicing their frustration. Although similar ad-supported models have already rolled out in other countries, Indian users are displeased about having to pay extra to avoid ads.

This move could potentially lead to a drop in Prime Video’s subscriber base in India, especially as some users may opt for unauthorized streaming alternatives. It remains to be seen how Amazon Prime Video will respond to the backlash and whether it will reconsider or modify the policy for its Indian audience.
