Ram Gopal Varma’s defense of the ticket price hikes for Pushpa 2: The Rule has left many shocked and puzzled. A day before the film’s highly anticipated release, the director shared a tweet on his official X account that seemed to stir unnecessary controversy.
Recently, RGV praised Allu Arjun as the biggest star in Indian cinema, but today, he attempted to justify the steep ticket prices for Pushpa 2 premieres with an unusual comparison. He likened the high ticket costs to the varying prices of idly in star hotels and roadside stalls. According to Varma, people shouldn’t complain about the increased prices and could simply choose not to watch the film if they can’t afford it.
However, Varma’s analogy misses the mark. While it’s true that people can choose between premium and budget options when it comes to food, movie fans, who have been eagerly awaiting Pushpa 2 for three years, shouldn’t be forced to pay inflated prices to see the film. Ticket prices should ideally differ depending on the theater and class, offering more affordable options for those who can’t afford premium tickets for recliner seats. Unfortunately, with Pushpa 2, fans are left with no choice but to pay steep prices, regardless of the theater or seating.
It’s surprising that a senior director like Ram Gopal Varma, who has been in the industry for decades, fails to grasp the point that cinema lovers deserve more flexibility and fair pricing options.
