Sankranthi Box Office Hype: Are Numbers Being Overstated?

Date:

In recent times, exaggerating box office figures for publicity has become a common practice in the film industry, and the producers of the recent Sankranthi releases are no exception. Several film teams have been announcing inflated collection numbers to generate hype, even when the actual performance at the box office suggests otherwise.

For instance, the makers of The Raja Saab claimed that the film collected ₹238 crore within just seven days of its release. However, trade sources believe that the movie is unlikely to reach this figure even by the end of its complete theatrical run.

Similarly, the team behind Anaganaga Oka Raju announced that the film crossed the ₹100 crore gross mark in only five days. Whether the movie can genuinely achieve this milestone over its entire run remains uncertain.

A comparable situation can be seen with Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu, whose producers have already declared a gross collection of over ₹300 crore. Although the film is performing well in theatres, it is yet to be seen if it can actually reach this number by the end of its run.

Overall, many film teams appear to be inflating box office figures by 25 to 30 percent, and in some cases even more. This increasing trend has raised serious concerns about the reliability and credibility of officially announced box office collection numbers.
