The Andhra Pradesh government has clarified the schedule for Sankranti holidays. SCERT Director Krishna Reddy announced that schools will have holidays from January 10 to January 19, 2024, as per the 2024-25 academic calendar. He dismissed rumors that holidays might be reduced to January 11-15 or January 12-16 due to recent local holidays granted in various districts because of heavy rains. The government urged people not to believe the misinformation spreading on social media.
Additionally, for Christmas, December 25 has been declared a public holiday, while December 24 and 26 are optional holidays. The government also released the holiday list for 2025, which includes 23 general holidays and 21 optional holidays, totaling 44 days off. However, four of these holidays fall on Sundays, including Republic Day, Ugadi, Sri Rama Navami, and Muharram.
Recently, heavy rains in several districts prompted local collectors to declare holidays for schools and colleges. This reduction in working days sparked rumors on social media about shortening Sankranti holidays. Officials clarified that there are no changes to the official schedule, ensuring students and parents can plan their festive celebrations without confusion.
Sankranti, a major festival in Andhra Pradesh, holds special significance, with people traveling back to their hometowns to celebrate the occasion grandly. This clarification has brought relief to students, parents, and families eagerly awaiting the festival.
