Shankar’s Brand Evolution: From Blockbuster Successes to Struggles in 2025

Date:

Shankar’s brand evolution from 2015 to 2025 is unexpected, showcasing a dramatic shift in his market appeal. Despite hailing from the Tamil film industry, Shankar carved a strong identity in the Telugu market. In 2015, his film I, starring Vikram, made a massive impact, opening to impressive numbers on par with those of top-tier Telugu stars. Even though the film received largely negative reviews, it grossed over 50 Cr in Telugu states—an achievement that was a challenge even for established stars.

Similarly, 2.0, despite facing a delayed release, performed well in Telugu states, crossing the 100 Cr gross milestone. However, Shankar’s brand experienced a significant downturn with Indian 2, and his latest film, Game Changer, featuring Ram Charan, further highlighted this decline. Despite receiving relatively better reviews, Game Changer struggled to draw audiences to theaters, showcasing a stark contrast to the director’s earlier successes.

The shift in Shankar’s brand image from 2015 to 2025 reflects a complete transformation in his market presence, making him a more polarizing figure rather than the universally admired director he once was.
