The Supreme Court has provided some relief to popular YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, widely known as the ‘BeerBiceps guy,’ in the wake of legal troubles stemming from comments he made during a stand-up comedy show, India’s Got Latent. The court has ruled that no additional police cases can be filed against him regarding the matter. Furthermore, Allahbadia has been assured that he will not face arrest by either the Maharashtra or Assam police, provided he cooperates with the ongoing investigation.
Amid growing concerns for his safety, the Supreme Court has stated that Allahbadia may seek police protection in Maharashtra and/or Assam if he receives further threats. The YouTuber has alleged that both he and his family have been subjected to death threats, and that his mother’s medical clinic was invaded. In response to these concerns, the court has directed him to surrender his passport to the police in Thane and has prohibited him from leaving the country without prior judicial approval.
Despite offering him legal relief, the Supreme Court justices strongly criticized Allahbadia for his remarks. Justice Chandrachud expressed deep personal disapproval, stating that while the legal implications of the case must be addressed separately, he found the comments morally indefensible. Justice Kant was even more severe in his criticism, questioning whether such content should not be deemed obscene in India. The hearing quickly escalated into a stern rebuke, with the justices emphasizing the embarrassment caused to Allahbadia’s family and discussing the broader societal implications of such statements.
Allahbadia is facing multiple legal hurdles, including police complaints, a summons from the National Commission for Women, and potential scrutiny from a parliamentary panel. The controversy has also drawn in other social media influencers, with Samay Raima, Apoorva Makhija, and Ashish Chanchalani being named in related police cases. Additionally, both Raima and Makhija have reported receiving threats.
The case took a dramatic turn when Allahbadia failed to appear before the police, prompting authorities to visit his Mumbai residence, where they found the house locked and the YouTuber missing. Despite the mounting pressure, Allahbadia has publicly vowed not to back down, insisting that he remains fearful for his safety but resolute in facing the situation.
