Telugu OTT Viewers Disappointed by Vidudala 2

Date:

Director Vetrimaaran, who has earned a solid reputation among Telugu audiences, recently faced disappointment with his latest film Vidudala 2 (Viduthalai 2). Despite the filmmaker’s strong brand, the movie struggled to attract viewers to the theaters, with audiences opting to watch it on OTT instead.

After its streaming debut on Prime Video, Vidudala 2 garnered mixed reactions from Telugu viewers. Many fans of Vetrimaaran’s previous works found the film lacking the signature intensity and memorable scenes that made his past films so impactful. The movie was criticized for being overly lengthy and slow-paced, which failed to engage the audience, leading to a general sense of disappointment.

The film also underperformed in Tamil cinemas, receiving a lukewarm response at the box office and similarly mixed reviews on its OTT release. It ended up as a below-average grosser, both commercially and critically.

With Vidudala 2 failing to strike a chord with audiences, Vetrimaaran is now turning his attention to his upcoming project, VaadiVaasal, starring Suriya. This project holds promise of reigniting interest among Telugu viewers, especially with the buzz surrounding Suriya’s involvement. If VaadiVaasal delivers, it could be the comeback Vetrimaaran needs to reconnect with Telugu audiences.
