Fans know how Vijay Deverakonda’s Taxiwala performed at the Telugu box office, but what many didn’t know was the intense panic Vijay faced before the film’s release. During a recent podcast interview, he opened up about a tense moment when producer Allu Aravind called him with alarming news: “We’re gonna shelve the project” and warned, “Your future is at stake.”
Vijay shared that while the cast had a fantastic time shooting the film, embracing its unique style, the makers grew deeply dissatisfied with the final product. After filming wrapped, the team reportedly wanted to abandon the project due to poor music and awkward execution. Vijay recalled, “The laughs, punches, and suspense just didn’t work. The scenes felt awkward, stuck in the usual Telugu comedy template with clichéd sound effects. Everyone looked like idiots. This wasn’t what we expected—we had aimed for a futuristic horror vibe.”
At Allu Aravind’s request, Vijay rushed from a shoot in Chennai to Hyderabad to save the film. He convinced the team to give Taxiwala another chance by reworking the music. Director Jakes Bejoy was brought in to revamp the soundtrack, breathing new life into the movie.
Vijay admitted that hearing his career was at risk was terrifying, especially as a relatively new actor with only three films to his name. But trusting in the film’s potential, he fought to keep it alive—and eventually, Taxiwala made it to theaters, much to the relief of its team and fans alike
