Viswam, the latest action-comedy starring Gopichand and directed by Srinu Vaitla, encountered a familiar struggle at the box office despite a vigorous promotional campaign. Director Vaitla, who promised a fresh approach to comedy and action, remarked, “I have changed, so will my film’s result.” Yet, despite enhanced comedic elements and high-energy action, Viswam received a mixed response from audiences, not fully meeting the heightened expectations.
The film’s teaser and trailer initially generated buzz, with Vaitla’s new direction appearing promising. Co-starring Kavya Thapar, Viswam also added a touch of glamour, though ultimately falling short in theaters. Responding to this, the release strategy has pivoted to OTT: Amazon Prime Video secured the streaming rights for ₹12 crores and plans to release Viswam during the Diwali weekend, aiming to capture a broader viewership among those who might have missed it in cinemas. Only time will tell if Viswam finds a more favorable audience through streaming.
