Why Gautham Menon Shelved the Sequel to His Gangster Film

Date:

Gautham Vasudev Menon’s action-packed gangster saga, Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu (VTK), starring Simbu in the lead role, hit theaters in September 2022. The film garnered mostly positive reviews and had a decent theatrical run. Released in Telugu as The Life of Muthu, the story ended on a cliffhanger, leaving fans eagerly anticipating a sequel.

However, the sequel never materialized, sparking curiosity among fans. Recently, Gautham Menon shed light on the matter. He explained, “The script for VTK Part 2 was completed. However, Simbu wanted VTK itself to be made on a grander scale and wasn’t inclined to continue with the sequel.”

He further added, “About 25 days after VTK’s release, Simbu seemed to lose interest, though this had no connection to the film’s box office performance. I still believe it’s a brilliant two-part film with a compelling storyline.” The film featured Siddhi Idnani as Simbu’s love interest, with Radhika Sarathkumar and Neeraj Madhav in pivotal roles.
