Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Re-Releases: A ₹1.20 Crore Opening Day and New Year’s Cheer

Date:

Ayan Mukerji’s romantic comedy Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, made a grand re-entry into cinemas on Friday, bringing a burst of New Year’s joy to audiences. The film earned ₹1.20 crore on its opening day, as reported by Sacnilk.

The re-release sold 65,000 tickets and added ₹1.20 crore to its impressive overall gross of ₹188.57 crore in India and ₹318 crore worldwide. This re-release has secured the second-best opening for a film re-release, following Tumbbad, which earned ₹1.50 crore on its opening day last year. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has outperformed several other films re-released recently, including Laila Majnu (₹30 lakh), Karan Arjun (₹25 lakh), Veer-Zaara (₹20 lakh), and Kal Ho Naa Ho (₹12 lakh).

Karan Johar, who produced the film under Dharma Productions, shared an Instagram Story of the audience dancing to the iconic track Badtameez Dil. He captioned it, “Converting cinemas into rock concerts! YJHD is back in theatres!”

The film, also starring Kalki Koechlin, Aditya Roy Kapur, the late Farooq Shaikh, Tanvi Azmi, Kunaal Roy Kapur, and Rana Daggubati, became a cult classic that blended friendship, love, adventure, and music. It marked the reunion of Ranbir and Deepika after their breakup and was their first film together since then. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani was also the second collaboration between Ranbir Kapoor and Ayan Mukerji, after Wake Up Sid (2009) and before Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022).
