Mahesh Babu’s Athadu Creates History as First Indian Film to Re-Release in IMAX

Originally released in 2005, Athadu, starring Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu and Trisha, was a decent box office success at the time. Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, the film gained cult status over the years, especially after its repeated television premieres.

Now, nearly 20 years later, Athadu is making a grand comeback to the big screen—and this time, it’s bigger than ever. The iconic action-drama is set to become the first Indian film to be re-released in IMAX format, marking a historic milestone in Indian cinema. The re-release will feature stunning 4K Ultra HD visuals and Dolby audio, offering fans a technically upgraded experience.

Scheduled to hit theaters across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana this August, Athadu will serve as a special treat for fans ahead of Mahesh Babu’s birthday. With 100 days to go, a special countdown poster was unveiled earlier today, sparking excitement among fans.

Produced by veteran actor and filmmaker Murali Mohan, Athadu features music by Mani Sharma, whose soundtrack continues to be a fan favorite.
