Mufasa: The Lion King, the sequel to The Lion King (2019), was released globally on December 20, 2024. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film has performed exceptionally well in India, joining the 100 Cr Net Club.
Among the various regions, Tamil Nadu has proven to be Mufasa’s best-performing territory in India. The film has had a massive run in the state, even surpassing Viduthalai 2, which grossed 44 Cr. Mufasa has now crossed the 50 Cr mark in Tamil Nadu, making it the second Hollywood film to achieve this milestone in the region, following Avatar 2.
Produced by Walt Disney Studios and directed by Barry Jenkins, this Hollywood musical drama features Mahesh as the voice of Mufasa, with Satyadev voicing Taka/Scar. Ali, Brahmanandam, Shaking Sheshu, and Ayyappa P Sharma lend their voices to other important characters. Interestingly, Shah Rukh Khan has dubbed for Mufasa’s character in the Hindi version of the film.
