Revanth Reddy Biography:
Anumula Revanth Reddy, born on November 8, 1967, is an Indian politician currently serving as the second Chief Minister of Telangana, assuming office on December 7, 2023. He represents the Kodangal constituency in the Telangana Legislative Assembly and is affiliated with the Indian National Congress (INC).
Prior to his current role, Reddy served as the Member of Parliament for the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency. He assumed the position of president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee in July 2021, succeeding N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. Under his leadership, the INC secured victory in the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election, triumphing over the incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi.

Born on November 8, 1967, in Kondareddy Palli, located in the Mahboobnagar district (now part of Nagarkurnool district) of Telangana, India, Revanth Reddy completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from Andhra Vidyalaya College, Osmania University, Hyderabad.
Reddy is married to Geetha, who is the niece of former Union Minister Jaipal Reddy. Together, they have a daughter.
Revanth Reddy Early Life:
During his student years, Revanth Reddy was associated with ABVP. His initial foray into politics came in 2006 when he contested the local body elections and secured a seat as a ZPTC member from Midjil mandal, running as an independent candidate.
In 2006, his encounter with Mr. Little Krishna ignited his interest in politics.
The following year, in 2007, Reddy transitioned to mainstream politics by winning a seat in the Legislative Council (MLC) as an independent candidate. Subsequently, he aligned himself with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) after meeting with party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Revanth Reddy Political Career:
In 2009, Revanth Reddy secured a seat in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from the Kodangal constituency, garnering 46.46% of the votes as a TDP candidate. His victory marked a significant defeat for the incumbent and five-time MLA, Gurunath Reddy of the Congress (INC). Serving as an MLA in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from 2009 to 2014, he later continued his tenure in the Telangana Assembly from 2014 to 2018.
During the 2014 undivided Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, Reddy emerged victorious in the Kodangal constituency, defeating Gurunath Reddy with a substantial margin of 14,614 votes. He assumed the role of the floor leader for the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
However, tensions arose within the TDP ranks in October 2017 when reports suggested Reddy’s potential inclination towards joining the Congress party. Consequently, he was removed from his position as the floor leader. By October 31, 2017, he officially joined the Indian National Congress (INC).
In the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections, Reddy contested from Kodangal as an INC candidate but faced defeat against Bhartiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS) candidate Patnam Narender Reddy. Nonetheless, he continued to play a significant role within the party, being appointed as one of the three working presidents of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on September 20, 2018.
Transitioning to national politics, Reddy contested the 2019 general election from the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency as a Congress candidate. He secured victory with a margin of 10,919 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Marri Rajashekar Reddy from the TRS.
In June 2021, Reddy assumed the presidency of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, succeeding N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. He played a pivotal role in leading the Congress party’s campaign against incumbent Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly elections. The Congress emerged victorious, winning 64 seats, with Reddy contesting from Kodangal and Kamareddy constituencies. While he secured victory in the former, he faced defeat in the latter. Remarkably, his win in the Kodangal constituency marks his third consecutive term representing the region.
Chief Minister of Telangana:
Following a resolution passed by the elected MLAs authorizing the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to nominate the leader, Reddy was appointed as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party. This paved the way for his ascension to the role of Chief Minister of Telangana. On December 7, 2023, he was sworn in as the Chief Minister, becoming the second person to hold this esteemed position.
Revanth Reddy Controversies:
In connection to the 2015 cash-for-votes scam, Revanth Reddy was apprehended by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on May 31, 2015, as part of a sting operation. This followed allegations of bribery aimed at influencing nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson to cast a vote favoring the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate in the Legislative Council election. Subsequently, Reddy, along with two others – Bishop Sebastian Harry and Uday Simha, faced a criminal case under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. On June 30, 2015, the Telangana High Court granted conditional bail. Reddy’s release was celebrated by TDP party members with a rally on July 1, 2015.
