Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’ Faces Copyright Controversy with Ilaiyaraaja

The title teaser for Rajinikanth’s upcoming film “Coolie,” directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, recently sparked controversy due to the use of music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The teaser included the song “Va Va Pakkam Va” from the movie “Thangamagan,” originally composed by Ilaiyaraaja, but used in the teaser by Anirudh. Ilaiyaraaja has sent a copyright notice to the “Coolie” team, claiming they used his music without proper authorization.

When Rajinikanth was seen at the Chennai airport today, reporters inquired about his views on the ongoing copyright dispute with Ilaiyaraaja. Rajinikanth responded, “The issue is between Ilaiyaraaja and producer Kalanithi Maran,” suggesting that he is not directly involved in resolving the matter.

As the film’s production continues, it’s unclear whether an agreement will be reached between Ilaiyaraaja and the producers. “Coolie” is a standalone film where Rajinikanth plays a mafia don against the backdrop of gold smuggling, and it is not part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).

The resolution of this dispute remains uncertain, but fans are hopeful for an amicable settlement that won’t impact the film’s production schedule or release plans
